Kibble, treat & wet food packaging
When packaging dry pet food in formats from 1kg retail bags to 25kg wholesale sacks, the physical demands on the pouch are unlike any other category — and our Pet Food Stand-up Zipper Pouch is engineered specifically for these extreme conditions. Unlike human food packaging that moves through predictable retail channels, pet food bags must survive rough warehouse handling, resist puncture from sharp kibble edges during transit, seal out humidity in garage storage, and endure repeated opening-and-closing cycles by pet owners multiple times daily.
The key differentiator is our heavy-duty wide-track zipper — a closure system designed not just for convenience but for structural survival. Standard food zippers rated for occasional use begin to fail after 20-30 open-close cycles; our wide-track zipper, with deeper interlocking ridges and thicker gauge material, is tested to over 200 cycles without degradation in seal integrity or tactile feedback. This matters because a 15kg bag of dog food will be opened 60-90 times over its consumption period — and a failed zipper means stale food, dissatisfied customers, and lost repeat purchases for the brand.
The reinforced triple-layer corner seal is another pet-food-specific innovation. At the junction where the bottom gusset meets the side seal, we add an extra heat-seal pass and a small triangular reinforcement patch that distributes stress across three bonded layers rather than two. Standard pouch corners begin to micro-tear at around 8-10kg fill weight; our reinforced corners are rated to 25kg. For brands selling premium large-breed dog food or multi-cat household formats, this engineering detail is the difference between a packaging failure rate of <0.1% and 2-3% — representing thousands of dollars in product loss and customer complaints at scale.
Available with a transparent front window (with or without an integrated degassing valve for freshly-packed kibble), anti-slip grip texture coating on side panels for safe handling of heavy bags, and abstract pet-themed gravure printing that communicates the product category instantly on retail shelves. Primary applications: dry dog food, dry cat food, small animal feed, bird seed, and livestock supplement packaging.

Pet food pouch printing must balance two competing demands: the need for vibrant, shelf-stopping graphics that communicate pet category instantly to consumers, and the requirement for heavy-duty surface durability that withstands the rough handling inherent to this product segment. Our solution combines rotogravure printing with a specialized anti-scuff matte overprint varnish that protects the printed surface from the abrasion that occurs when 25kg bags are stacked, palletized, and shipped.
The pet food category presents a unique color psychology challenge: warm earth tones (browns, greens, creams) communicate “natural ingredients” and “wholesome nutrition” to pet owners, established through decades of category visual conventions. Our gravure process achieves exceptional depth in these earthy color ranges — tones that flexographic printing often renders flat or washed out on metallic substrates.
Spot gloss effects, precisely registered to abstract paw-print and bone-shaped motifs, create subtle yet effective visual cues that help consumers navigate the pet food aisle. The gloss-on-matte contrast draws the eye to key brand elements without the cost premium of metallic inks. An optional anti-slip clear matte coating applied to the side grip panels serves dual function: it provides a tactile gripping surface for lifting heavy bags while simultaneously protecting the print in the highest-contact zone.
The lining of a pet food stand-up pouch faces a unique chemical environment: the natural oils and fats present in even high-quality dry kibble can, over weeks of storage, begin to penetrate standard PE sealant layers — causing delamination, odor transfer, and in severe cases, seal failure. Our solution uses a grease-resistant modified PE inner layer specifically formulated for pet food contact.
This inner layer incorporates a co-extruded EVOH (ethylene vinyl alcohol) barrier core within the PE matrix rather than as a separate film — creating what engineers call a “buried barrier” structure. Unlike laminated EVOH films that can delaminate when exposed to pet food oils, the buried barrier is molecularly integrated, providing oxygen barrier performance of <1 cc/m²/day while remaining completely impervious to oil migration. This is the same technology used in premium human snack packaging, adapted for the higher oil content and longer shelf life requirements of pet food.
The outer structural layer uses a puncture-resistant oriented PET film, tested to withstand the sharp edges of extruded kibble shapes — a failure mode unique to pet food that conventional food packaging never encounters. Combined with the reinforced triple-layer corner seals, this lining system delivers a package that performs reliably from the filling line through months in the consumer’s home.
